Let's Talk About AI

The whole world is suddenly talking about Artificial Intelligence, and Chichester is no exception. From smart speakers like Alexa in your home to voice assistants like Siri on your phone, AI is already prevalent in our daily lives. But with new AI models such as ChatGPT, Dall-E, and Jasper, it feels like the internet is buzzing with excitement.

These new AI models take things to the next level by helping us write articles, search the web using natural language, generate images, create code, and introduce new ways to make our daily lives even easier. However, new technology often launches with a lot of jargon that can be difficult to understand, and early PC users might remember the ‘DOS prompt’ or having to ‘defrag’ their computer.

Experts predict that these new AI tools will become the building blocks of a whole new world of technology, redefining the way we interact with computers and machines.

To help you understand some of the key terms, let’s decode them together:

Chatbot: This is an app that mimics human-to-human contact, and ChatGPT is a popular example of a chatbot that uses AI. Just type or speak normally, and the chatbot will respond in the same way.

Deep Learning: This is a technique that imitates the human brain by learning from data. Current search tools and systems use pre-programmed algorithms to respond to requests, but AI tools are trained on concepts and conversations in the real-world, and learn as they go to provide human-like responses.

Machine Intelligence: This is an umbrella term that encompasses machine learning, deep learning, and conventional algorithms. Experts often debate whether machine intelligence will surpass human ingenuity.

Natural Language Understanding (NLU): This is a technology that helps machines understand the meaning of what we say, even if we make grammatical errors or speak with different regional accents.

Weak AI: This is the most common form of AI in use right now. Weak AI is non-sentient and typically focuses on a single or small range of activities – for instance, writing, or repurposing video content.

Strong AI: This has the goal of producing systems that are as intelligent and skilled as the human mind, but this level of AI is not yet available.

These are just some of the many terms related to AI, and you can expect to hear a lot more about AI in the months and years to come. If you’d like to understand how AI can be a part of your business, feel free to get in touch for more information.
